#WinatSocial March - Find Your Influence
Hello Families,
Your 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students' class just ran a #WinAtSocial Lesson, about the theme: Find your influence. If you have time, please continue the conversation at home about these important modern-day life skills. Consider encouraging your child to coach up and share their ideas. Here are some questions you can post to everyone in the family:
6th Grade: Vetting videos, posts, and articles we find online to make sure they're real.
-
TOSS UP: I heard that you played “3 Truths and a Lie” in class. As a family, let’s go around the room, play the game together, and see if we can find the lie about each other. This version is probably a little harder since we know each other well, so bring your A-game!
-
COACH UP: Students aren’t the only ones who can fall for misinformation. Adults are also believing false stories and sharing them online with their friends. What are some good strategies we can use to vet an article, making sure it’s believable and credible?
-
HUDDLE UP: Do you think the pros of using social media for news and knowledge outweigh the cons of sifting through possible misinformation? If so, why? Let’s go around the room and share your thoughts. No wrong answer!
7th Grade: Recognizing how much we're influenced by online influencers.
-
TOSS UP: If you could become an influencer, what type of content would you create?
-
COACH UP: I heard you did a challenge where you analyzed posts from influencers to see if their recommendations were authentic or not. Can you teach me some strategies on how to tell whether an influencer is being truthful about a product?
-
HUDDLE UP: I heard you talked about your personal habits surrounding influencers and their posts. What standards should we set as a family for following influencers on social media?
8th Grade: Preparing for the challenges and opportunities ahead in a new grade or school.
-
TOSS UP: If you could design a new school club, what would it be?
-
COACH UP: What’s something you learned this year that you’ll use next year to help you succeed?
-
HUDDLE UP: How should we work together to prepare for any tough transitions in our lives?
