Green Team Boosts Biodiversity with Native Plants Garden

Students work in garden

Thanks to a generous grant from the PTSA, the Green Team is bringing more life to our schoolyard—literally! Students are planting a native plants garden to increase biodiversity and support the local environment.

This exciting project will not only make our school grounds more vibrant, but it also plays an important role in helping the environment. Native plants support pollinators like bees and butterflies, use less water, and help stabilize soil. They can also play a part in climate mitigation by storing carbon and supporting resilient ecosystems.

The garden ties directly into what students are learning in Life Science. As part of the project, students will each choose a native plant to research and discover how it contributes to a healthier climate. It’s a hands-on way to connect science learning to real-world action.

With teamwork, science, and a little dirt, PCMS students are making a difference—one plant at a time.
